How to Stay Focused

Sometimes it can be one of the most difficult things to do.

One of the hardest things for me personally is staying focused for extended periods of time. It can be difficult with all the distractions out there for me to stay on course and not get side tracked by Netflix… or cat videos.

Strangely enough I don’t have a method for getting focused in the short term, I do however, have a method for staying focused in the long term. Basically I have hot and cold periods. Sometimes I’m super productive, other times I’m not. In those productivity times, I DOUBLE DOWN! I double down so hard, that I more than make up for my non-productive days. For example, this is the 3rd blog post I’ve written today; simply because I’m in a writing mood. I generally commit to writing one article a week, so since I’m super doubling down, I technically can take the next couple weeks off (I won’t though).

I think my advice for staying focused is to double down on the good times, but don’t take backward steps during the down times. There is always something you could be doing that will help you reach your goals; even if it’s just reading articles, or reading a book. There’s always something small you can do, even when you’re not up to taking on the big challenges.

Another method I use, is committing myself to do a small amount over a defined period. That way I don’t burn out. So with this blog, I write once a week. With BroBasket, I shoot photos once a month, etc. I do a little every week. And it adds up. What you want is that sweet spot where every effort adds up, but you’re not taking so many steps that you get tired of walking. Find your sweet spot.
