Tips For Dealing With Sacrifice

Sometimes, sacrifices need to be made

On the road to financial freedom, whether it be through entrepreneurship or climbing the corporate ladder, sacrifices will always need to be made. Sometimes it may mean sacrificing time with loved ones, other times it may mean sacrificing short term desires. Talk to anyone who has accomplished anything in life, they will all say that at some point in time, a sacrifice was required.

Since this will be a necessary evil along your own personal pursuits, I wanted to share some of the tips I’ve learned on how to cope with sacrifice in order to achieve whatever you set out to achieve.

Maintain focus on the ultimate goal

Sometimes it can be really hard to be okay with making small sacrifices (like not going out with friends on weekends). It may be especially hard if those small sacrifices need to be made for months or years on end. The only way to power through that period is to keep focus on your ultimate goal. Remember why you’re doing what you’re doing. Remember why it’s more important for you to stay in rather than go out.

Get others on board

Sacrifices become a lot easier to make, when the people who are affected by it are on your team. If you can no longer party on weekends, having friends that understand why it’s important that you stay in makes it easier. They won’t call you asking you why you’re not out, and you therefore won’t feel the temptation to give in.

Have rest periods

You can’t hustle ALL the time. You can’t ignore everyone forever. It’s important that you periodically come up for air. This down time will help you remember why you’re grinding in the first place. Trust me, blowing off a little steam now and again will help keep you focused for the long journey ahead.
